Las Vegas - As the fight draws near, more and more Mexicans have thrown their support to Filipino icon Manny ?Pacman? Pacquiao in his battle against Oscar De la Hoya on December 6 at the MGM Grand Resort and Casino here.
Promoter Bob Arum, in an interview with the media following the ?Final Impact? card at the Mandalay Bay last Saturday, hinted that a lot of Mexican fans will show up at the fight for Pacquiao, as they can associate with him rather than with De la Hoya, who is a son of Mexican migrants who grew up in the United States.
In a separate interview with www.insidesports.ph and posted over the popular website Philboxing.com, Arum reiterated that ?all the Mexicans want to help Pacquiao. They want to walk him into the ring.?
Among the fighters mentioned by Arum who will be willing to walk Pacquiao into the ring were WBC Continental Americas light middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr., WBO welterweight champion Antonio Margarito, Mexican legend Erik ?El Terrible? Morales and WBA super flyweight interim champion Jorge ?Travieso? Arce among others.
?The Mexicans love Pacquiao because he was like Mexican fighters, a warrior. Pacquiao is more popular in Mexico than De La Hoya,? he said.
Chavez Jr., at the post-fight interview following his win over Matt Vanda on Saturday here, also told the media ?people say it?s a crazy fight but honestly, from a fighter?s point of view I think De La Hoya is going to have a very tough time with Pacquiao. He can win the fight, but my money is on Pacquiao. All the Mexicans are backing up Pacquiao.? /Correspondent Salven Lagumbay
