Davao City?s Monaliza Ambasa and Elmer Bartolo stole the spotlight from Cebu?s best runners as both ruled the Don Sergio Osmeña Sr. (DSOS) 10k run on Tuesday.

Ambasa staved off the tough competition in her field to top the women?s 10k Open, while Bartolo won the men?s crown of the race that started at the Osmeña landmark and ended at the Cebu City Sports Center.

?Nalipay gyud ko nga nakaya ra nako. Abi man nako nga di ko makadaog kay ga una man daan si Leszl,? said Ambasa, who finished the race in 40 minutes and 53.534 seconds.

Cebu?s multi-titled runner, Leszl Gitaruelas, finished second with a time of 41:13.206.

?Na overlapan ko ni Ambasa dihang 1 kilometer nalang nahibilin, medyo na usab akong dinaganan after sa Mount Kinabalu run,? explained Gitaruelas.

The Cebuana placed fourth in the Mt. Kinabalu race held in Malaysia last month.

?Wala pa gyud ko nauli-an,? she added.

Defending champion Maria Estela Diaz wound up third (42:03.673), while Madelyn Carter grabbed fourth place (42:53.499).

Bartolo, meanwhile, continued his winning ways in Cebu by winning the 10k men?s Open with a time of 33:24:809.

Angelito Sibayan wound up second (33:28.610), while Crifrankreadel Indapan of Bukidnon finished at third (33:45:391).

?The weather was one of the factors that gave me an opportunity to win this race kay di man kaau init pero wala ko nikumpyansa kay kusog sad ang mga kontra,? said the 25-year-old Bartolo, who also won in the Cebu Doctors? University Run for Sight, Sinulog Marathon and the Kapamilya Run.

Other winners

Other winners were former national triathlete Noy Jopson (10k executive), Tomas Nunez (Master A) and Celedino Juarez (Master B).

This year?s race is supported by Seiko official timer, Emergency Rescue Unit Foundation (ERUF), City Traffic Operations Management (CITOM), CHARGE and the Sports and Fitness Enthusiast (SAFE), which celebrated its fifth anniversary on Tuesday.
