The junior and senior basketball squads of the University of the Visayas (UV) moved forward in their bid to retain their respective Cesafi titles as they barged into the semifinals following lopsided victories over their quarterfinal foes on Sunday at the Cebu Coliseum.
The seven-time champions and top-seeded Green Lancers easily disposed of the eighth-seeded Cebu Institute of Technology (CIT) Wildcats, 71-44, to move into the next round, where they will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between the third-ranked University of San Carlos (USC) Warriors and the sixth-seeded Don Bosco College (DBC) Greywolves.
The defending junior champions Baby Lancers, meanwhile, stole the thunder from their senior counterparts as they made history by posting the most lopsided win in Cesafi history, beating the Cebu Eastern College (CEC) Dragons, 150-40.
The game resembled more of a lay-up line rather than an actual match as the ball hardly crossed the half-court line for the Dragons.
After scoring 59 points in the first half, UV stepped on the gas pedal even more and scored a whopping 91 points in the second half, while allowing CEC to tally just 18 markers.
Jan Auditor and Glennson Ybanez led the rout with 27 points each as six players scored in double figures for the Baby Lancers, who will face the winner of the quarterfinal match between the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) Baby Panthers and the USC Baby Warriors.
The University of Cebu (UC) Baby Webmasters also made it into the semifinals after overwhelming the Don Bosco Greywolves, 111-68.
UC will face the victor of the quarterfinal matchup between the CIT Wildkittens and the University of San Jose-Recoletos (USJ-R) Baby Jaguars.
Six-foot-11 center Greg Slaughter led the Green Lancers' balanced attack with 11 points.
