WBO Intercontinental superbantam king Re 'Boom Boom' Bautista will officially fight in the huge pay-per-view event on December 6 featuring Oscar De la Hoya against Pinoy icon Manny Pacquiao at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Bautista, who is currently in Bohol for his much-deserved rest following a smashing second-round stoppage of Mexican Eden Marquez last Saturday, is set to tangle with a tough opponent according to GBP vice-president Eric Gomez.
“We are going to put him on the show and we are trying to get him a good fight against someone in the rankings, someone who could give him a good fight,” Gomez told Philboxing.com in a report yesterday.
Gomez has indicated that GBP remains hopeful of Bautista's future in boxing and they were “looking at a possible world title fight again. That’s the plan.”
The young boxing executive added that Bautista is “not going after a world champion for his next fight but want to do a fight that is important to set him up for his next couple of fights before fighting for the title.”
Gomez has read the reports posted at Philboxing.com describing Bautista's impressive win over Marquez, and was happy about the result of the fight, including the co-main event where Donnie Nietes stopped Nicaraguan Eddy Castro in the second round.
“The thing with ‘Boom Boom’ is that he’s very charismatic. He’s one of those guys that people like to see fight because you never know what’s going to happen. Anything can happen. He could get dropped but he could also knock anybody out. That makes him exciting," Gomez said, echoing the observation of one boxing website which ranked Bautita as one of the world's most exciting fighters.
