PINAY cue artist Iris Rañola defeated American Emily Wilmoth, 7-6 in the final match to win the Arizona Women's Billiard Tour Stop Labor Day in Tucson, Arizona, over the weekend.
According to national coach Boyet Asonto, the two pool players battled each other to a 4-4 tie before Wilmoth called for a break. The players took one. When they returned, Wilmoth surged ahead by two to reach the hill first, 6-4. However, the Divisoria, Zamboanga native Rañola fought to the end and came back to take the next three and the first-place prize of $500 in the 26-player tournament.
Rañola, one of the top women's players of Puyat Sports who is fresh from a runner-up finish in this year's WPBA US Open 9-Ball, defeated American Michelle Micik, 7-3, for the hot seat match.
In the loser's side, Wilmoth trounced Micik, 7-4, to arrange a titular showdown with Rañola, the reigning RP National Women's Open champion. /Correspondent Marlon Bernardino
