La Salle climbs back from 15-point deficit to nip NU

THE DEFENDING champions De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Archers erased a 15-point deficit to bag a 79-67 win over the National University (NU) Bulldogs yesterday in the 71st UAAP men's basketball tournament at the PhilSports Arena.

La Salle overhauled a 21-36 deficit behind a 31-point explosion in the third where they shot a high 65 percent clip.

JV Casio erupted for a game-high 22 points and scored nine points in a blistering 18-0 attack that allowed the Archers to take a 53-46 advantage late in the third. Casio added five assists and two steals.

The Archers bolstered their Final Four bid as they stayed at solo second in the standings with their eighth win in 10 games. The Bulldogs dropped to 2-8 (win-loss).

NU led by 11 points at the half, 42-31, but committed nine of its 28 turnovers in the pivotal third.

Peejay Barua finished with 14 points, while LA Revilla added eight for La Salle, all of them coming in the second half.

Edwin Asoro, Raymund Aguilar and Jonathan Jahnke led the Bulldogs with 19, 11 and 10 points, respectively.

The three, however, accounted for 18 of the Bulldogs' 28 turnovers.

Asoro, Aguilar ad Jahnke nearly matched La Salle's total errors of 19.
