Games today:
(Araneta Coliseum)
2 p.m.- UP vs. Adamson
4 p.m.- UE vs. La Salle

DEFENDING champions De La Salle University Green Archers gun for the solo leadership when they play the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors today in the main game of the 71st UAAP men's basketball tournament at the Araneta Coliseum.

La Salle, the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws and the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles are in a three-way tie at the top with identical 5-1 (win-loss) slates.

The Tamaraws forced the three-way logjam after they subdued the former unbeaten Blue Eagles last Thursday, 72-66.

The Red Warriors will be extra motivated going into today's game as they seek revenge against the Archers.

UE lost to La Salle in last year's championship, spoiling the Red Warriors' 14-game sweep in the elimination round.

The Red Warriors are tied with the University of Santo Tomas (UST) Growling Tigers at fourth place with similar 3-3 records.

In the first game, the University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons try to snap a five-game losing streak against the Adamson University (AdU) Falcons.

UP sports a 1-5 card and has never tasted a win since starting the tournament with an 86-72 win over the winless National University (NU) Bulldogs.

The Falcons occupy the sixth spot of the standings with two wins and four losses. CORRESPONDENT CALVIN D. CORDOVA
