The M Lhuillier-Cebu Niños pocketed their second straight victory with an easy 104-75 win over the Zamboanga Amores last night in the Cebu leg of the Liga Pilipinas Tour at the Cebu Coliseum.
Coming off a 90-69 dumping of the Laguna Stallions Wednesday night, the Niños waxed hot from the three-point land in the first half to break the game wide open.
Stephen Padilla made five straight triples bridging the first and second quarters, leading Cebu's early breakaway. The Niños never looked back after taking a 57-36 lead at the turn.
The Niños actually trailed early, 4-7, but successive triples by Padilla and Mark Ababon allowed the Ninos of head coach Raul “Yayoy” Alcoseba and team owner Michel Lhuillier to immediately wrest the lead.
Padilla finished with 18 points, all coming from the three-point land.
The Amores, who were beaten black and blue by the Pampanga Buddies last Wednesday, 60-119, were led by Peter Naron and Charleston Bolias with 14 points each.
Meanwhile, Larry Rodriguez struck six straight points in the closing minutes to carry the Pampanga Buddies to an 88-81 win over the Laguna Stallions.
The Buddies, who also improved to 2-0 (win-loss), erected an 80-69 lead in the final 3:28 but the Stallions clawed their way back behind a 7-0 blast, cutting their deficit to just four, 76-80, with 2:05 left.
Rodriguez then strung up four straight points to give Pampanga an 84-76 lead.
After a layup by Laguna's Gerwin Gaco, Rodriguez made another basket underneath to tow the Buddies to an 86-78 with just 37 seconds left.
Rodriguez wound up with 19 points, 12 of them coming in the second half.
Jemal Vizcarra backed Rodriguez with 15 markers. Gaco finished with 19 markers for the Stallions, who fell to 0-2.
In the Quezon leg at the Quezon Convention Center, the Ilocos Sur Bravehearts pulled off a 102-101 overtime win over the Misamis Oriental Meteors.
Ilocos Sur improved to 1-1, while MisOr dropped to 0-2.
