Not even a flu could slow down Chester Cokaliong as he led the Cebu Eastern College Alumni Basketball Association (Cecaba) All-Stars to a 125-105 trashing of the USJ-R Padres Recoletos in an exhibition game last Sunday at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.
Despite playing under the weather, Cokaliong was still at his usual deadly form, dropping 12 eye-popping three-point bombs to finish with a team-high 42 points.
"Because I was sick, I told coach Bong Pineda before the game to pull me out if ever I perform miserably but I was surprised that my shots went in,” said Cokaliong, who was named the All-Star MVP.
Cokaliong canned seven triples in the first half and powered the Easternians to a huge 66-44 lead at the half.
Cokaliong added five three-pointers in the second half, preventing their counterparts from staging any uprising.
Amadeo Lucero of the Padres Recoletos also waxed hot offensively as he erupted for a game-high 52 points but got little support from his teammates.
The flu, however, took its toll on Cokaliong as he failed to win a single title in the shooting competitions, which he normally dominates.
Although Cokaliong struggled in the shootout competitions, the Easternians still ruled two of the three shooting events.
Zotico Tan topped the free throw shooting competition, while Ryan Alexis Mendez dominated the three-point shootout.
