Six-foot-eleven behemoth Gregory Slaughter imposed his will in the shaded lane to lead the University of the Visayas (UV) Green Lancers to two quick wins in the 6th Asian University Basketball Championships (AUBC) at the Cebu Coliseum.
Last Saturday, Slaughter scattered 15 points to lead the Green Lancers to an 83-77 win over Korea’s Hanyang University, 83-77.
On Sunday, Slaughter had another monster performance as he fired 29 points to carry UV to an 89-69 bashing of the Angeles University Foundation (AUF) Great Danes.
UV went exclusively to Slaughter in the fourth period, where the Fil-Am cager unloaded 11 points.
Slaughter sparked a 19-4 run bridging the third and fourth periods as UV zoomed to a 69-51 lead going into the final 7:33.
AUF did not make a field goal until the 6:57 mark of the fourth that hastened its downfall.
Although he scored just five points, Phil Mercader had his fair share of contribution through his hustle plays and terrific defensive job.
The game was marred by the ejection of UV's Junjun Lasala and AUF's Lemuel Manarang in the final 7:22.
The two were both ejected for unsportsmanlike behavior. AUF remained winless in two games.
