An all-out battle on the dancefloor is expected to commence today at the Grand Pacific Ballroom of the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel and Casino as the Dancesport Council of the Philippines Inc. (DSCPI) stages the Mid-Year Ranking and Competition.

Almost 500 athletes will be duking it out for pride and prestige in 40 categories in the Standard and Latin Disciplines.

The DSCPI has taken off from its usual staging of the event in Manila, deciding to hold it in Cebu instead in order to give the multitude of young Cebuano dancers the chance to strut their skills.

Most of these dancers are graduates from the Summer Dancesport sa Barangay program of the Dancesport-Team Cebu City.

Over 100 athletes are expected to represent Cebu, comprising more than half the field of 229 couples that are set to compete in the Ten Dance (for all Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Slow Foxtrot, Quickstep, Samba Chachacha, Rumba, Paso Doble and Jive dances); Standard and Latin each for - Teacher-Student A (five dance), Teacher Student C (three dance), Special Event (three dance) 1M, Special Event 1F, Special Event 2M, Special Event 2F, Juvenile (two dance), Junior A (five dance), Junior C (three dance), Youth A (five dance), Youth C (three dance), Senior A (both over 35 years, five dance), Senior C (both over 35 years, three dance), Grand Senior (both over 55 years, two dance), Grades A (five dance), B (four dance), C (three dance), D (two dance) and E (one dance).

Aside from the local front, dancers from Northern Luzon, Metro Manila, General Santos and Davao are also expected to grace the dancefloor together with some international flavor, with dancers expected to pour in from Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia and Hong Kong.

DTCC is hoping to duplicate its dominant performance during the 1st quarter ranking and competition, which saw them rake in 14 gold medals, seven silvers and three bronze medals.
