CEBU WILL once again be on the spotlight in the national dancesport scene as the Dancesport Council of the Philippines Inc. (DSCPI) holds its mid-year ranking and competition on July 5 at the Grand Pacific Ballroom of the Waterfront Hotel and Casino in Lahug.
DSCPI will depart from its usual routine of staging the event in Manila to give way to Cebu, which will be fielding in a delegation of 120 couples from the 229 couples slated to participate in the prestigious competition.
Dancesport-Team Cebu City (DTCC) head coach Loloi Rendon said that having the competition here in Cebu will give young dancesport athletes, especially those coming from the barangay-based summer dancesport workshops, the chance to strut their skills against top competition nationwide.
?It's very hard to bring these kids to Manila had the competition been there since we have to come up with funds to pay for their fare, entry fees and accommodation. It will also give these kids the chance to show their skills in an actual competition after training for so long,? said Rendon.
Athletes from Manila, the rest of Luzon and Davao have already signified their intention to participate in the competition, which will have 40 medals at stake in both the Latin and Standard dance events.
Categories being competed in both the Latin and Standard dances are the Teacher-Student A and C, Special Event 1F, Special Event 1M, Special Event 2M, Special Event 2F, Juvenile, Juniors A and C, Youth A and C, Senior A and C, Grand Seniors, Grade A, B, C, D and E, and the Ten-Dance.
Dancesport-TCC dominated the 1st quarter ranking and competition as they came away with 14 gold medals, seven silvers and three bronze medals. /Corrrespondent Jonas Panerio
