Sonny Boy Jaro took the vacant OPBF light-flyweight title with a hard-earned split decision verdict over Along Denoy in their 12-round encounter in Puerto Princesa, Palawan on Friday.

Denoy boxed beautifully all throughout the fight, but was bothered by a cut over his right eye with blood streaking through his face without let-up. What appeared like a headbutt in the third round was declared a legit blow by referee Bruce McTavish.

Jaro, managed by Aljoe Jaro of Binangonan, had his moments during the fight, but was visibly surprised after he was announced the winner after the 12-round rumble.

In the chief support, Danilo Pena dethroned RP superfly champion Richard Olisa of the Aljoe Jaro Stable, roughhousing the latter and not allowing the champion enough room to box him from the outside.

Olisa went down in the opening round, and had a badly swollen eye starting in the second round. He recovered from rounds three to five, but was downed again in the sixth.

Pena sent Olisa again with a barrage in the eighth round, prompting referee Ver Abainza to call a halt to the fight.

Tiger City's Sonny Gonzales took a come-from-behind ninth-round TKO over Ronald Pontillas, while Dan Nazareno decisioned a no-hoper Jury Noda. Roel Lagunero and Michael Landero figured in a second-round technical draw. Ex-WBC International champ Gabriel Pumar returned with a unanimous verdict over Daniel Ferreras; Tiger City Gym's Eljune Leonardo prevailed on a split decision over Quilver Cailing; while Ariel Cardoza and Remy Quambot figured in a split draw.
