Cebu tennis princess Sally Mae Siso moved up to number two in the 14-Under division of the Philippine Lawn Tennis Association (Philta) rankings after chalking up another title in the Dunlop Age Group Championships.
Sally Mae capped her fruitful summer by winning the 14-U title of the Dunlop tilt at the expense of Macy Gonzales, 6-3, 6-4, yesterday at the Manila Polo Club tennis courts.
The title win, thus, brought her championship total to 14 for this summer alone.
It also made up for her brother?s lackluster performance in the boys? side.
Bernardine ?Niño? Siso suffered stunning losses in the 18-under and 16-under divisions, failing to duplicate his performance in Cebu last week.
Bernardine first lost to Kim Ivor Salaza, 7-5, 6-2, 5-7, in the championship match of the 18-U class.
He then retired in the 16-U finals against Alberto Villamor because of a painful blister.
BATTLE CONTINUES
Meanwhile, Sally Mae?s search for more title continues as she plunged into action in the TGI Friday/Itallianis Women?s Tour.
Sally Mae wasted no time and buckled down to business after the Dunlop tournament, winning over Jasmin Tan Ho, 6-3, 6-1, to make it to the semifinal round of the TGIF tilt held at the Rizal Memorial Complex tennis courts in Malate, Manila.
Sally Mae, who is joining the circuit for the first time, blasted through everyone who was put in front of her as she romped over Alyssa Callejo, 6-0, 6-2, in the first round and then squeaked past the third-seed Eileen Rogan, 7-6, 7-5, in the second round of action. She will face the top-seeded Bambie Zoleta in the crucial semifinal round, which starts today. Correspondent Jonas Panerio
