20 teams joins League of Municipalities hoop tourney

Twenty teams from the northern, southern and island provinces of Cebu are set to see action in the 1st League of Municipalities of the Philippines (LMP)-Cebu Developmental Basketball League, set to kick off simultaneously on May 21 at different venues.

Confirming their participation in the tournament organized by LMP-Cebu Chapter president, Dumajug Mayor Cesar “Sarsi” Baricuatro along with tournament commissioner Ramon “El Presidente” Fernandez, are Compostela, Liloan, Toledo, Asturias, Tuburan, Sibonga, Cordova, Dumanjug, Alegria and Malabuyoc.

Also joining the tournament are Ginatilan, Samboan, Santander, Oslob, Boljoon, Alcoy, Dalaguete, Argao, Madridejos and Tudela.

The tournament aims to cultivate talents from the far-flung provinces of Cebu in hopes of having them join the different varsity teams in the Cesafi.

Players must be 17 years old and below and must not be an active varsity player, trainee or reserve player on any college or university currently playing in the Cesafi.

Champions at the division level will get P20,000 while runners-up will receive P15,000, P10,000 and P5,000. Champions at the provincial level will bag a whopping P80,000 while runners-up will get P60,000, P40,000 and P20,000. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
