Intermittent rain didn't stop Dumaguete City racers from winning the first three spots in the open division class of the downhill competition of the 1st Congressman Red Durano International Road and Mountainbike Championships in Danao City yesterday.
RP Team member Joey Barba lived up to his lofty billing by lording the open class with a time of five minutes and 3.65 seconds.
Barba, logged the best time after five strikes in a 200-meter downhill trail and received the top purse of P10,000 and a trophy.
Eliezar Barba Jr. of Dumaguete City finished second with a time of 5:06.85 while Wendel Barba occupied third place (5:18.07).
Cagayan de Oro's Boy Suran claimed the title in the executive level with a time of seven minutes and 3.16 seconds.
Cebu City's Jemuel Moreno wound up at second with a time of 7:28.61 while Cebu City Sports Commission commissioner Gene Faelnar finished third (8:20.40).
In the beginners level, Kevin Timblador of Iloilo City bested 20 others to rule in the class with a time of 5:27.25.
Gaby Cordova of Iloilo City trailed Timblador by just two seconds to wind up in second place while Galvin Galan of Cebu City placed third (5:58.24).
The event attracted 120 racers from all over the country.
The cross country competition starts today along with the road bike competition.
A total of 11 divisions will be held today, including the open division, which is participated by RP team members led by Ceabuano Niño Surban.
