IT'S ALL systems go in the revised Cebu City Inter-Barangay Sportfest today at the Cebu City Sports Center.
Cebu City mayor Tommy Osmeña will grace the opening ceremony along with sports commission chairman Jack Jakosalem and Yayoy Alcoseba.
One of the highlights of today’s affair, which is expected to draw close to a thousand athletes and officials combined, is the selection of the best muse contest.
A total of 25 barangays around the city confirmed their participation in this sportsfest, which is held to promote competitiveness in sports.
Organizers are hoping to hold this event every two years.
Events to be played are basketball, volleyball, table tennis and chess.
Table tennis and chess will be held at the CCSC while volleyball and basketball will be held in different venues.
Jakosalem said they used this format of playing in different venues for the convenience of the players.
"Atoa ning gihimo para ang players dili na maghago og ari sa sports center."
A total 25 teams registered in basketball. Teams will be divided into two brackets with the top two teams in each bracket will advance to the semifinal round.
Jakosalem said the Cebu City Government is spending P400,000 for the event, which covers the officiating funds only.
