Following the success of Cebu’s staging of the National Students Basketball Championship (NSBC), the city is poised to host another collegiate affair with the Pichay Cup, slated this April.
This was divulged by Basketball Association of the Philippines (BAP) Visayas head and basketball patron Lorenzo “Chao” Sy immediately after the championship game of the NSBC last Saturday.
According to Sy, the tournament is tagged after BAP president Prospero Pichay and will have three of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines’ (UAAP) top teams to do battle against the best local collegiate squads including the newly crowned NSBC champions Southwestern University (SWU) and the seven-time Cesafi titlists and NSBC runners-up University of the Visayas (UV).
The other Cebu squad is NSBC third placer and two-time Cesafi runner-up University of San Carlos Warriors.
The three teams will do their best to stand up to the reigning UAAP champions, De La Salle University Green Archers, 2007 UAAP runners-up University of the East Red Warriors and 2005 champions Far Eastern University Tamaraws.
Sy also added that a sizable cash prize will be awarded to the champion although they have yet to determine the final details. /Correspondent Jonas Panerio
