Top Rank CEO Bob Arum has been quoted as saying he wants to stage a rematch between Filipino Z Gorres and Mexican Fernando Montiel, holder of the World Boxing Organization (WBO) superfly crown.

Gorres and Montiel first crossed paths on February, 2007 in Cebu with the reigning champion barely retaining his title with a split verdict. A vast majority of ringsiders believed Gorres had won the fight.

According to Fightnews, Arum plans to put up the fight sometime in May if Montiel gets the green signal from Golden Boy Promotions.

"We are open to it. Gorres is more than willing to fight Montiel. We will be waiting for the formal offer if reports are true. We will fight anywhere and anytime," said Gorres' manager Michael Aldeguer when asked for comment.

Montiel, for his part, is set to defend his title against ex-world champ Martin Castillo on February 16 at the MGM Grand underneath the Kelly Pavlik-Jermain Taylor rematch.

Gorres is coming off a drawn match with Australian Vic Darchinyan during their 12-round eliminator at the Waterfront Hotel.

The IBF is poised to give Darchinyan a first crack at IBF superfly champ Dmitri Kirilov, with the winner slated to face Gorres next.

"We were shocked with reports from the Darchinyan camp that Z was hospitalized. He was in the hospital because of the cut in his head due to the headbutt. Gorres is very determined to fight Montiel or Darchinyan again," added Aldeguer.
