It was double whammy for former prospect Rodel Mayol as he remains unpaid of his purse following his fourth-round knockout loss at the hands of Adrian Hernandez last Saturday in Guanajuato, Mexico.
Mayol, according to Philboxing.com, has revealed that he remains unpaid by his fight agent Michael Koncz, who promised to give the money on Monday, but when asked for it, advised him to wait until today.
Mayol divulged that he took the fight with the promise by Koncz that should he win, he would then face Omar Nino in a WBC light flyweight eliminator or an outright challenge of WBC 108-lb champ Edgar Sosa in April.
Mayol also debunked reports that he didn't train properly for the fight, saying that he was prepared for the chance to vie for another world title.
However, he weighed in alone, instead of doing it with his supposed opponent, as there were claims his original foe backed out.
?The night before the fight, Koncz told him that they can easily look for replacement since they're in Mexico and there are a lot of fighters available. This fight is supposedly a tune-up fight for Mayol. But what happened the replacement is a legitimate flyweight, his name is Adrian Hernandez, undefeated in 11 fights with 9 KOs,? said Philboxing.com.
?Mayol told me that this Adrian is an up and coming fighter in Mexico, and he was groomed to be a legitimate contender. So Mayol asked Koncz, if he is one of their up and coming fighters, why are they trying to match Hernandez with him?? said Anthony Andales of Philboxing.com.
?I just wanted to let everybody know that I did my best, and I prepared for the fight. I'm not trying to sourgrape but I am confused, I'm not mentally relaxed and all the distractions took their toll on fight night,? added Mayol.
