MANILA, Philippines -- University of the Philippines? Javier Luis Gomez smashed a 45-year-old league record in men?s javelin to highlight a dominating performance in the UAAP athletics competition over the weekend at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex.

Gomez, a second year math student, tossed the javelin at 60.66 meters to break by nearly a meter the previous mark of 59.69 meters set by Doroteo Amirallado of former league member Manila Central University in 1963.

The lean, 20-year-old Gomez completed the feat during the decathlon competition, where he impressively ruled six events including the 100-meter dash (11.46 seconds), long jump (6.36 m), discus (34.9 m), pole vault (4 m) and shot put (10.68 m).

National team member Nelbert Ducusin also erased three league records to pace the strong performance of Far Eastern University in the men?s competition.

Ducusin set new marks in the 1500m run (3:58.6 minutes), 5000m run (15:23.30), 3000m steeplechase (9:28.65) and also ruled in the 800m (1:54.65) and 10000m run (33:13.29).

Another FEU Tamaraw trackster, Oliver Garcia, set new league times in the 5000m walk (25:50.10 min), the 4x100m relay team (41.94 sec) and the 4x400m relay squad (3:20.4 min).

FEU swept the heptathlon competition with Maricris Caguicla ruling with a total score of 3975, followed by Marriz Cotoner (3746) and Jenece Alvarado (3737), while Ateneo de Manila University scored a 1-2 finish in octathlon with Dean Michael Roxas (4433) and Evan James Valera (4236).

Florida Gonzales came through with a record performance for FEU in the 3000m walk (15:44.5 min) and 5000m walk (27:50.36 min).
