MANILA, Philippines -- San Sebastian College and the University of Perpetual Help set the pace in the NCAA women’s beach volleyball tournament after clinching their third straight victories against separate foes at the La Salle Green Hills sand courts over the weekend.
The Lady Stags pair of Lou Ann Latigay and Margarita Pepito trampled on Mapua’s Maica Punsalang and Miriam Sorreda, 21-9, 21-7, while the Lady Altas tandem of Jeen-Arc Baguio and Kesia de Luna downed Letran’s Rossan Fajardo and Kriselle Moralejo, 21-13, 21-19.
But the Knights reigned in men’s action with a 3-0 slate after Eden Canlas and Warren Pirante posted a 21-9, 21-16 triumph over San Beda’s Christian Aguila and Leonel Laraya.
In table tennis, College of St. Benilde got its women’s title defense off to a good start with a 3-0 blanking of Jose Rizal University in the tournament opener Tuesday at the Letran Gym.
The Blazers completed an opening-day sweep with the men’s squad posting a 3-0 triumph over the Heavy Bombers and the Junior Blazers nipping the San Beda Red Cubs, 3-2, in junior action.
Letran, San Beda and Sebastian also join the opening-day winners in men’s action.
The Knights turned back the Heavy Bombers at 3-0, while the Lions cruised through an easy victory with a 3-0 rout of the Mapua Cardinals.
Just like their senior counterparts, the Squires downed the Light Bombers, 3-0, in the juniors division.
The Staglets also outclassed the Altalettes at 3-0.
Table tennis action will resume Thursday.
