Only minimal disruptions are expected on the last week of the registration of voters for Cebu province, an elections official told media yesterday.
Commission on Elections (Comelec) Cebu province supervisor Lionel Marco Castellano said he met with local power distributors last week to discuss their concerns on power supply for the coming week as a rotating brownout program is implemented in Cebu City.
He said he asked the Cebu Electric Cooperative (Cebeco) and the Visayan Electric Co. (Veco) to limit the brownouts to one hour or at least between 11 a.m. and noon.
?At least the disruptions would have a minimal effect. But if ever the brownouts cannot be avoided, we can continue accepting registrants and filling up our logbooks. The critical areas are the elections office in Mandaue City and Lapu-Lapu City,? Castellano said.
In Cebu City, he said their main problem is the south district office in which they have to turn off their computers due to a malfunctioned airconditioner.
Castellano also said he is not expecting a large number of registrants this week.
?I was able to check the 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. shift. At most there are only 10 people who line up for registration at this time. (During the registration period) the election officers coordinated with barangay officials and we also set up off site registration sites,? he said.
In Lapu-Lapu City, Castellano said he asked the Mactan Electric Co. to spare City Hall where the Comelec City office is located from the scheduled rotating brownouts.
He also said there is a small increase in the number of new voters.
