The Cebu Provincial Board (PB) was asked to endorse Consolacion town?s reclamation project to the Philippine Reclamation Authority (PRA).
Consolacion town officials led by Vice Mayor Ember Alinsug also urged the PB to specifically state in their endorsement that they did not have any objection to the project.
According to the municipal council resolution dated Sept. 4, there is a need to undertake the 207-hectare reclamation project.
The town?s ?limited dry land? is not enough to accomodate the present administration?s planned infrastructure projects.
?The municipality of Consolacion is asking for the favorable indorsement of the Sanguniang Panlalawigan to the Philippine Reclamation Authority relative to its 207-hectare proposed reclamation project,? said the resolution.
A copy of the town's resolution was among the items listed for discussion during the PB session on Monday.
But the PB opted to temporarily defer action on the town officials request pending review by the PB committee on environment which is chaired by board member Victor Maambong.
The provincial government through the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (Penro) earlier called the attention of Consolacion Mayor Avelino Gungob on the unauthorized quarry operations in his town.
Gungob had said in an earlier interview that they were trying to open a road that would provide access to far flung barangays.
Part of the soil taken from the road opening project was also used as filling material for the town's reclamation project which occupies part of barangays Jugan,Tayud and Nangka.
DENR ordered to stop the town's quarry operations and warned Gungob against the implementation of their reclamation project which lacked an Environment Compliance Certificate.
In a notice dated July 2, 2009, Rolando Luego of DENR asked town officials to explain in writing why they should not be fined P50, 000 for their violation.
Some Consolacion residents also lodged a complaint against Gungob before the office of the Visayas Ombudsman.
Residents claim that the town's quarry operations has caused ?damages? on their neighboring lots.
