Summer heat hikes day use bookings in Mactan resorts

First Posted 07:06:00 03/21/2010

Day use bookings in Mactan?s resorts went up this month as both domestic and foreign tourists try to escape the summer heat with a cooling dip in the pool.

Some resorts like Maribago Blue Water Beach Resort in Lapu-Lapu City saw a rise in day-use bookings in which guests use resort facilities for the day, which cost less than staying overnight.

Resort press officer Joefe T. Lucmayon said they noticed more people booking day use reservations especially on weekends.

?Some even come here at 4 p.m and we close our day-use at 5 p.m, leaving them with only an hour to enjoy the pool,? she said.

She said customers are willing to pay P700 even for an hour's use of the pool or the beach. The trend is noticed among more local guests compared to foreigners.

A recently opened resort, the Imperial Palace Waterpark Resort and Spa, reported a similar experience.

?We have more day users now especially on weekends even when we increased our rates to P1,700 on weekdays and P2,000 on weekends,? said the resort's PR supervisor Kyra Cabaero.

Cabaero said they expect more guests like graduating students and families spending their summer vacations in the resort.

Rica Rellon, assistant communications manager of the Shangri-La Mactan Island Resort and Spa said they noted a a five percent increase in bookings compared to the same month last year.
