Cases vs sexy actresses to be withdrawn

First Posted 08:57:00 03/20/2010

Cases against two actresses and organizers of a ?lewd? show in Bantayan Island last year will be withdrawn by the Capitol after complying with the conditions of Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia.

Capitol spokesman Rory John Sepulveda said sexy stars Maui Taylor and Jennifer Lee have complied with the governor's requests.

?If we do not withdraw (the charges), we will be accused of having neither word nor honor,? he said.

The sexy stars as well as the organizers had apologized for holding a bikini fashion show during Black Saturday up to Easter Sunday last year on Bantayan Island.

But the provincial government required them to issue a public apology in the local papers as a conditions for withdrawing the case against them for violating a provincial and municipal ordinance that prohibits activities that degrade the dignity of women.

The actresses and show organizers were also required to join in religious activities during the Lenten season and in the celebration of Women's Month, said Provincial Attorney Rose Arnado.

The actresses also attended the 10th Annual Women's Congress at the Cebu International Convention Center in Mandaue City on the governor's invitation.

Garcia had requested them to promote women's welfare starting with sharing the lessons they learned after being charged in court.

Taylor and Lee were conferred with the title of Ambassadors for Women's Rights in the Province.

?I will definitely not do this again. Whatever we did, we would make sure never to do this in other places,? said Taylor, whose real name is Maureen Anne Rodriguez.

Taylor and Lee met with Arnado for mediation proceedings at the Palace of Justice.

Mediator Alvin Regido said both parties agreed to a compromise agreement which will be submitted to the Municipal Circuit Trial Court in Bantayan town.

Regido, however, said the compromise agreement was subject to the court?s approval.

But for Taylor, it was enough.

?Thank you to the governor. We will never do it (bikini show) again. What we did here will not happen in other places,? said Taylor.
