Davide, Garcia to rally in each other’s hometown

On the eve of the official start of the local campaign period, Cebu's two leading gubernatorial candidates will hold their kickoff rallies in each other's hometown.

Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia will hold her grand rally in Argao town on March 26 with Lakas presidentiable Gilbert Teodoro at her side.

Her main rival, Liberal Party (LP) Cebu chapter's standard bearer Hilario Davide III, will hold his first grand rally in Dumanjug town the following day.

Dumanjug is Garcia's hometown while Davide, a former top Cebu City councilor, hails from Argao town.

Both said they took no offense at the choice of rally site.

?Well, this is a free country,? said Garcia.

?The fact of the matter is that since 2004, this is how we have always started and ended our opening salvo. We started with a Mass in Dumanjug in my hometown then we would do a motorcade in the entire 2nd district,? Garcia said.

Davide said the Dumanjug grand rally was not meant to pique their opponents since the town is the first stop in a planned route for traversing Cebu's 2nd district using the western coastline.

?I have been asked about that (Garcia's rally in Argao) many times. It's okay. It is a free country and I have nothing against it,? Davide said.

He said his party?s March 26 rally had yet to be finalized, but he can?t attend it since he would be in Manila to attend his daughter's graduation.

?So we will have our grand rally in Dumanjug on the 27th or the 28th,? Davide added.

He said they are still coordinating with the LP leadership in Manila to invite standard bearer Sen. Benigno ?Noynoy? Aquino in the grand rally.

Garcia, meanwhile, said she already clinched her invitation to Teodoro during her visit to Capiz for the One Visayas Festival.
