Police believe the kidnappers of Jordan Chua, a Chinese-Filipino businessman from Bacolod City, Negros Occidental, are still in Cebu.
Senior Supt. Ramon Melvin Buenafe, chief of Regional Intelligence Division (RID), said they were closely monitoring the kidnappers who left the victim at the wharf in Toledo City where Chua was rescued.
Buenafe said his men rescued Chua early Wednesday and was turned over and reunited with his family. ?He is safe and reunited with his family,? he said.
But he refused to give details on how Chua was brought to Cebu by the kidnappers.
Chua was abducted last March 5 by four armed men while he was biking with three companions in Bago City, Negros Occidental. Joel Arroyo, Chua's biking buddy, was shot by the suspects when he tried to help and was rushed to the Bacolod Adventist Hospital.
The Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office (Noppo) learned that Chua?s abductors left Murcia on board a silver gray Toyota Grandia van and passed through the Don Salvadaor Benedicto highway.
Police then tracked them based on this information until they arrived in Cebu.
After they received reports that Chua was kidnapped, Buenafe ordered his men to monitor the coastal areas in Cebu.
He theorized that the kidnappers would most likely take Chua to Cebu so they immediately alerted all members of the intelligence community, including all police assets and members of the Barangay Intelligence Network. They were able to confirm that the victim and his kidnappers were hiding in Toledo City.
Based on the information, he said his menproceeded to Toledo City but did not find the kidnappers.
After learning that authorities knew their whereabouts, the kidnappers left Chua at the wharf in Toledo City, about 50 km from Cebu City.
Buenafe said the abduction of Chua was well planned by an organized crime group.
Buenafe refused to comment on rumors that the Chua family paid ransom to his abductors.?What?s important is that the victim was rescued and is now safe,? said Buenafe.
He also declined to reveal any information given by the kidnap victim after he was rescued.
Chua is reportedly engaged in the buy and sell of luxury vehicles. /with Correspondent Jucell Marie Cuyos
