AN additional supply of 82 megawatts (MW) of power will be available in two weeks time.
But only 72 MW will be added to the Cebu-Negros-Panay (CNP) grid, said Ed Satina, Cebu Energy Development Corp. (CEDC) assistant vice president.
Satina said they would retain the 10 MW for their own consumption.
In an interview over dyAB, Satina said the availability of their 72 MW power on Feb. 21 would help lessen power interruptions.
The CEDC, he said, will test and commission one of their new plants on Sunday.
?We will see what will happen when the plant starts to deliver power to the grid,? he said.
He said testing will also determine if there are defects in the new power plant, its system and accessories.
Satina said testing will continue until they start full operation of the power plant on Feb. 21.
The CEDC plant can produce 82 MW.
Satina said that an additional supply of 144 MW would be made available in May and December this year.
The CNP grid is now short by at least 240 MW because of the maintenance of several power plants.
Yesterday, power supply was short by 160 MW during the morning peak and 180 MW in the afternoon ?due to limited generation in the Visayas?.
Ethel Natera of the Visayas Election Company (Veco) said their share of the shortage was 75.1 MW in the morning and 84.4 MW in the afternoon.
