Soco chides vice gov for skipping debate

First Posted 07:02:00 02/09/2010

FOR refusing to accept his challenge to a public debate, One Cebu vice gubernatorial candidate Glenn Soco yesterday labelled Liberal Party (LP) rival and incumbent Vice Gov. Gregorio Sanchez a coward.

?Hadlok gyud siya (He's afraid). If he is really superior as he says he is, he should engage me in a public debate so the public can see and listen for themselves to our programs and vote for whoever they think is the better candidate,? he told CEBU DAILY NEWS.

Sanchez earlier turned down Soco?s challenge for a debate saying it would be like debating with an elementary pupil because Soco had no experience in governance.

But Soco said he was willing to face Sanchez on any issue about Cebui province.

Soco said he wants to prove that he is not dependent on his looks and that he has his own programs for Cebu.

Soco hasn?t held a position in government other than a Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) post in Mandaue City.

But he said his affiliation with civic and business organizations exposed him to joint government programs.

?Unsay may pagtuo niya siya ray kahibawo? (Does he believe that he knows everything)?,? Soco said.

Soco also cited his achievements, saying he won the Ernst and Young Entrepreneur Award in 2005 along with Sanchez and four other entrepreneurs.

He also dismissed the recent One-Cebu party in-house survey results which Sanchez claimed had shown him leading Soco by 90 percent.

Soco said the survey was for the party's own consumption and meant to identify their strengths and weaknesses.

The vice gubernatorial candidate likewise chided Sanchez for saying that he would only debate with Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia, saying Sanchez filed for the wrong position to run in.

Soco said he is willing to join a debate with Garcia, Sanchez and LP gubernatorial candidate Hilario Davide III.

He said this would be better than Sanchez having to criticize Governor Garcia in a privilege speech before the Provincial Board (PB).
