IT would be a sunny Christmas day ahead for Cebu, though the evenings would still be colder due to the effects of the tail end of the cold front, the Mactan office of the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said yesterday.
Pagasa Mactan chief Oscar Tabada said that based on a rainfall tool from the US Navy NOGAPS, thicker clouds ensure warm weather for the day while the amihan or northerly winds will cool evenings for the province.
No typhoon is forecast for the end of the year, Tabada said. Rainfall will mostly be concentrated in the Surigao provinces in Mindanao.
Pagasa Mactan is relying on the US rainfall tool and Manila's weather satellite for monitoring since their satellite is still down.
Tabada said a US technician will arrive on the first week of the New Year to fix the satellite?s software problems.
All 58 weather stations of Pagasa rely on the Mactan satellite since it covers a wide range of weather conditions. Correspondent Carine M. Asutilla
