MAYORALTY candidate Samuel ?Sammy? Darza is contemplating on resigning from the opposition Kugi Uswag Sugbu (Kusug) due to disagreements over their moves to post a decoy candidate.
Darza, Nacionalista Party (NP) liaison in Cebu, said they need to be clarified on Kusug's choice of their presidential bet.
Darza filed his mayoralty bid as an independent candidate.
As Kusug secretary general, Darza said he did not agree with Kusug leaders to field a decoy candidate for mayor.
?Never. That was what they proposed (to file a decoy while waiting for Winston Garcia) but why file two decoys,? Darza told CEBU DAILY NEWS.
?I'm contemplating on resigning for Kusug,? Darza added, saying he was confused with Kusug's political direction in terms of supporting a presidential candidate.
Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) president Winston Garcia is allied with the Lakas- Kampi-CMD whose standard bearer is Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro.
?I am for (Sen. Manuel) Villar. I would be very uncomfortable for me. Where will that place me? Kusug cannot file two candidates. I just wanted clarification on where Kusug stands on this,? Darza said.
The night before Darza and the Kusug candidates filed their certificates of candidacies (COC) at the Cebu City Commission on Election (Comelec), both Darza and the party already knew their respective plans.
But Darza said he was did not know about the decoy candidates.
?I'm not a party to that and I don't like that scheme. As of now I am an independent candidate and I can choose anybody I like (with the alliance with NP),? he said.
Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña said the Kusug move is a plan of the Garcias who wanted Winston to wage a one-on-one match with Cebu City Vice Mayor Michael Rama.
?Winston is administration. And administration is Gibo Teodoro. And I think Winston wants Darza out because it will be one on one with Mike Rama. That?s what I think,? Osmeña said.
Winston said he couldn't comment on Darza's statement since he isn't a member of Kusug.
?If I am going to run, I'm not going to rely on the strength of my presidential candidate. I will not depend on any political party it should depend on the strength of the group,? Winston said.
Raymond Garcia, son of former mayor Alvin Garcia and a candidate for Cebu City councilor in the north district, said everything that has transpired is still part of the ?grand plan.?
?We are keeping our cards close to our chest until Dec. 14. Let them guess and guess. Rest assured this is part of our our grand strategy,? he said.
However, he said they have yet to choose their presidential candidate.
?That is still in the farthest of our minds. Maybe we can start thinking about that on December 14,? Raymond said.
