About 104 bets gun for Cebu City posts

AS the official deadline passed yesterday, about 104 candidates were listed by the Cebu City Commission on Elections (Comelec) office for next year's elections.

The filing of candidacies which began last Nov. 20 covered 13 candidates for mayor, eight candidates for vice mayor, eight for the city's north congressional district and six for the city's south congressional district.

About 37 persons will run for councilor in the city's south district and 32 for the city's north district.

While Michael Rama is the standard bearer of the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK), Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña's sister Georgia was picked as Lakas-Kampi bet.

As a result, Georgia?s running mate Emmanuel Pacquiao and 14 of their candidates for council in the north and south districts were also carried over to the Lakas-Kampi fold.

Other mayoralty candidates include former senator John Henry Osmeña; businessman Crisologo Saavedra and Kusug candidate Landelino Bontilao; Engr. Jacinto Iran; Cristituto Abangan; Fermiliano Dapitan and Anastacio dela Cruz.

Also in the running for mayor are former public official Samuel Darza and Rodolfo Laconza who are independent candidates; Salvador Solima of the Philippine Green Republican party and Ricci Malou Ranili of the LDP party.

The eight candidates for vice-mayor include Joy Augustus Young of BO-PK, Pacquiao of Lakas-Kampi-CMD; Jovencio Talite of the PGR party; Baby Ian Baguio of the LDP; Jonah John Rodriguez of Kusug; Rico Palcuto, Jessica Go and Cresente Busalla.

The eight candidates for the city's north district include Rachel Marguerite del Mar of the Liberal Party; Mary Ann delos Santos of Kusug; Jacinto del Mar of PGR; Juan Arenasa; former National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) director Florencio Villarin; Isabelo Osmena and Miguel Selim.
