AFTER being mostly ignored at last Saturday's One Cebu convention, vice presidential candidate Edu Manzano was unable to get an endorsement from an official of the country's largest labor confederation also last week.
Manzano and Lakas-Kampi standard bearer Gilbert Teodoro visited Democrito Mendoza, the national president of the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines (TUCP) at his office. But Mendoza only lent his support to Teodoro, not Manzano.
Though the TUCP will hold a convention to officially endorse the national candidates in the May elections, Mendoza said he did not commit his support to Manzano.
However, he said his stance doesn't reflect the whole TUCP.
After attending the convention, Teodoro and Manzano went to the JSU-PSU Mariners's court building to visit Mendoza at his office where they had a late dinner.
Mendoza said he only announced his support to Teodoro because he knew the former defense chief personally.
He said it is up to the TUCP to decide whether or not to back Manzano.
Mendoza said he worked with Teodoro's father, Gilberto Sr. who was then the Social Security System (SSS) administrator while Mendoza was then a commissioner.
“I saw him (Gilbert) when he was a little boy, maybe he was then around 4 years old. He was very courteous,” he said.
Mendoza said Teodoro told him to submit the workers's platform which would be included in the administration party's platform of government during the campaign.Correspondent Jhunnex Napallacan
