THE INVESTIGATION initiated by Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia to look into possible anomalies in the provincial government?s purchase of a mostly submerged lot in Naga City is almost done.
Medardo de Lemos, director of the National Bureau of Investigation in Central Visayas (NBI-7) and head of the ad hoc committee created by Garcia to investigate the purchase, said the committee was finalizing its recommendations, which would identify those who could be liable for administrative and criminal charges for the purchase of the 24.7-hectare property, sold to the province by the Balili family.
De Lemos promised to release the committee?s full report by the end of the month or early December.
The committee earlier invited around 10 Capitol officials and employees for questioning. One of these was Provincial Board Member Juan Bolo, who prepared the memorandum of agreement and deed of sale for the P98.9-million transaction.
De Lemos declined to name other Capitol officials or employees involved.
Members of the committee include Capitol consultants Rory Jon Sepulveda and Manolette Dinsay, who are both lawyers, and Provincial Planning and Development Officer Adolfo Quiroga, all representing the executive department. Representing the legislative department are Provincial Board Members Victor Maambong, Agnes Magpale and Peter John Calderon.
The Cebu Provincial Board is also conducting its own separate investigation into the purchase. /REPORTER ADOR VINCENT MAYOL
