A SCION of the influential Quisumbing family will announce plans for next year's elections sometime this week, including a possible run for Congress in Cebu's sixth congressional district.

Former Provincial Board Member Gabriel Luis Quisumbing said yesterday he has been consulting with district leaders in order to assess his chances.

?These consultations we did will be our basis in making our decisions,? he told CEBU DAILY NEWS.

Quisumbing, a scion of businessman Norberto Quisumbing of the Norkis Group of companies, is one of six aspirants for Cebu's vote-rich sixth district.

The others include Provincial Board Member Victor Maambong, former Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Ouano, Mandaue City Councilor Victor Biaño, businessman Glenn Soco or Mandaue Vice Mayor Carlo Fortuna.

Quisumbing also declined to confirm about local alliances in Mandaue City following a statement by Mayor Jonas Cortes' adviser Edmund Sanchez that the Quisumbings are on their side.

Sanchez said he gave up plans to run for Cebu's sixth district in favor of Quisumbing.

?These local alliances know where we are standing,? Quisumbing said.

The former PB member also reiterated that he is still with the administration Lakas-Kampi coalition despite having lunch with Liberal Party standard-bearer Sen. Benigno Noynoy Aquino III last week.

?Our family always have good relations with all the presidentiables. They (Liberal Party) held a mass oathtaking and I was not there. But I was there at the Lakas-Kampi-CMD convention, so that means I am still with the party (Lakas-Kampi-CMD),? Quisumbing told .

Quisumbing confirmed that he had lunch with Aquino when the senator visited Cebu last week.

But he said the lunch was sponsored by the University of San Jose Recoletos (USJR).

?Our family is close and have very good relations with USJR, so when they invited us, I went there,? said Quisumbing.Reporter Dale G. Israel
