He ran for vice mayor in 2007 but isn’t about to do it again next year.
The youngest son of former Cebu City Mayor Alvin Garcia will run for councilor this time.
Raymond Alvin Garcia, a lawyer, said the lineup of the opposition Kugi Uswag Sugbo (Kusug) is “80 percent complete.
He also said he declined an offer by Georgia Osmeña to be her vice mayoral candidate.
He said Georgia, who is running for mayor under her own group called “Go Cebu”, talked to him over the phone and sent a representative to invite him on her slate.
“I was offered by Georgia to run for vice mayor. I politiely declined. As of now, I don't want to be half-baked. I’m not yet prepared,” he said.
Kusug is considering five names for the position of mayor and vice mayor, said Raymond.
These include his father Alvin and Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) president Winston Garcia, businessman Samuel Darza, congressional aspirants Jonathan Guardo and Mary Ann de los Santos.
Garcia said Kusug would only reveal their lineup on the last day of filing as a deliberate strategy.
Between then and now, he said anything can happen including lineup changes in the Bando Osmeña-Pundok Kauswagan (BO-PK).
“We will wait for the last minute. There is always a possibility that Margot will run for mayor (instead of Vice Mayor Michael Rama),” Raymond said.
Meanwhile, eight government buses with the faces of Rep. Raul del Mar and his daughter Cutie plastered on the sides, were turned over to barangays Kasambagan, Tinago, Apas, San Roque, Sto. Niño, Kalubihan, Kamagayan and Sta. Cruz in simple rites in barangay Lahug, Cebu City yesterday.
Cutie said the buses are not a campaign tool but an extension of the congressman's service to his constituents in the north district.
Cutie, who is running in next year’s election to fill the seat to be vacated by her father, said the buses are part of her father's Serbisyo del Mar and were distributed to barangays since last year. She said the vehicles are used to fetch children, senior citizens and anyone who needs them.
“There are not enough Kaohsiung buses to go around. They have to schedule using them in advance, so we decided to do this,” Cutie said.Correspondents Fe Marie Dumaboc and Jhunnex Napallacan
