Eatery owner files estafa raps against former monk

First Posted 07:30:00 11/21/2009

As if his pending estafa and sexual harassment charges were not enough, separated monk Venecio Cabillion is facing yet another case.

The latest case was filed by an eatery owner whose stall was set right outside the gates of Marian Monks Eucharistic Adoration (MMEA) monastery in Lindogon, Sibonga, Cebu.

In her complaint last Thursday Pastora Superable, owner of a small eatery, Cabillion started soliciting funds from her starting January this year.

He asked for P500 cash to help for transportation expenses for, according to him, his transfer to another monastery.

Three days after the cash was given, Cabillion sent Superable a text message asking for P60 cellphone prepaid load.

The cellphone load, according to the text, is to solicit funds from other MMEA benefactors. The P60 pesos grew into P1200. Every three days, Superable said, Cabillion would send her text messages again asking for the same amount.

It wasn't until after two months that she learned Cabillion is no longer connected in the monastery.

Cabillion, or Frater Paul Mary when he was still in the monastery, is facing estafa after the superior of the Monastery Abelio Mangila, or Frater Martin Mary, accused him for defalcating more than half a million pesos from the monastery.

Another monk, Evert Lloyd Ugay or Frater Basil Mary filed sexual harassment against Cabillion. Both charges were filed last October.

It would be noted that in August this year, Cabillion filed libel charges against Cebu Archbishop Ricardo Cardinal Vidal, Mangila, Rev. Fr. Marnell Mejia and Msgr. Cristobal Garcia, for publishing Cabillion's notice of disconnection from the service in Bag-ong Lungsoranon, the official publication of the Archdiocese of Cebu. Reporter Ador Vincent Mayol
