Resto bar gets closed anew

First Posted 07:19:00 11/21/2009

AFTER an attempt to reopen despite being ordered to close by local officials, a resto bar received another closure order from the Cebu city government.

City Legal officer Joseph Bernaldez said Mayor Tomas Osmeña issued the closure for Bakak yesterday afternoon.

When visited the area yesterday afternoon, at least six of the nine employees were there waiting for their last salary.

An employee who identified himself as Eugene, said the management ordered them to close the bar on Thursday night after hearing reports of a closure order.

The bar figured in a controversy after the girlfriend of the mayor’s son supposedly got drunk inside the establishment.

A city ordinance bans the sale of liquor to minors. The resto bar is located near the University of San Carlos Business and Law building.

“It hurts because we earn our living and send our kids to school out of working here,” said Eugene who have six children.

Eugene, who worked as a dish washer for a year, sends three children in high school and three in elementary.

He said that as of now they don't know where to go to find a living for his family.

Bakak resumed operations last Nov. 12, servicing its patrons from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m.
