Unfazed by multi-billion-peso finances, showbiz personalities and the administration's political machinery, Brother Eddie Villanueva of Bangon Pilipinas (BP) party shrugged off other presidential candidates and said he believed that his presidential bid will prove that the clamor for genuine change will prevail in the 2010 election.
?Patutunayan sa 2010 na ang multi-billion machineries would be nothing when the majority of our people will be united,? he said.
The founder of Jesus Is Lord Church, despite losing the 2004 election, started his campaign for the presidential bid yesterday with a motorcade en route to Waterfront Cebu City Hotel where he met the Cebu Press.
BP national campaign manager Atty. Lyndon Caña, Bangon Pilipinas Senatoriable Ramoncito Ocampo, former Mandaue Vice-Mayor Gemma Sanchez, and Pastor Emilio Henares BP-Negros Occidental Provincial coordinator were also present in the conference.
The party has a vice-presidential candidate. A senatorial lineup will be called ?Magnificent 7? or 9, we are still rounding up possible candidates from local chapters, people are to choose and will be endorsed to the national Bangon chapter, Bro. Eddie said.
Villanueva said his lineup are new faces from the ranks of lawyers, businessmen and even mediamen.
Ocampo, he said, will represent the voice of the estimated 10M OFWs. Ocampo is a lawyer who is based in Los Angeles, California. Villanueva also mentioned Kata Inocencia, from the media sector, as among of the possible candidates for senator.
?Definitely they don't have a proven record of corruption and incompetence in public service. They are new faces who will give new hope for our country,? Villanueva said in the press conference.
Villanueva reiterated that there's a clamor for genuine change so he decided to run.
?We can not abandon the aspiration of the people for genuine change. I'm accepting the challenge all the way up to 2010.?
The religious leader said he is not bothered by the survey result which showed him at the bottom of the list. He said he did not subscribe to it so his name was not included.
?We are banking on the collective wisdom of the Filipino people. I have faith on the Filipinos collective wisdom, I don't believe that they can be mentally conditioned by surveys in choosing the leadership this coming 2010 election, staking the future of their children,? he added.
Villanueva said his party has network from barangay-levels all over Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao that he calls ?the coalition of God-loving and nation-loving Filipinos? who can not be bought, can not be threatened and can not be corrupted.
Attorney Caña said that Bangon Pilipinas may field, adopt or forge a tactical alliance in the local levels but assures coordination first.
Caña could not say if they could adopt or field candidates in Cebu. This would depend on the local chapter. But he said those who would be adopted must have similar goals and visions of their party for ?true and genuine change?.
