The University of Cebu (UC) and the University of San Carlos (USC) drew tough assignments while the nine-time Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. (CESAFI) University of the Visayas (UV) will be facing a lukewarm one when the Sweet 16 stage of the Philippine Collegiate Champions League (PCCL) comes off the wraps next week.
The UC Webmasters, runners-up of this year?s Cesafi tournament, will be tackling the defending PCCL champions La Salle Green Archers.
The USC Warriors, on the other hand, drew the unenviable task of battling the newly-minted NCAA champions San Sebastian College-Recoletos Golden Stags.
The Warriors are hoping to bounce back after their dismal loss to eventual champions La Salle in the ?Sweet 16? last year.
The Webmaster, starring the 6-foot-10 giant June Mar Fajardo, will have to contend with the Green Archers, who are now under the tutelage of new head coach Dindo Pumaren.
The UV Green Lancers, rulers of the Cesafi for almost a decade, will be facing the Mapua Cardinals in the round-of-16. With 7-foot behemoth and Smart Gilas member Greg Slaughter leading the way, the Lancers have the odds tipped in their favor as they embark to redeem themselves after their ouster from the tournament last year at the hands of the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors.
UC and UV will be seeing action on Nov. 28 at the Arena in San Juan while USC plays San Sebastian on the 30th in Ormoc City. These was announced by PCCL commissioner Joe Lipa in a text message to Cebu Daily News yesterday. He also added that the PCCL games here in Cebu, which were originally scheduled for Nov. 30, has been cancelled due to a conflict in the scheduling.
