Two more Garcias may be joining in the political race in the province in 2010.

Nelson and Marlon Garcia, younger brothers of Cebu Gov. Gwen Garcia, are said to be interested to run for mayor in the towns of Barili in the third district and Dumanjug in the second district.

Rep. Pablo John Garcia of the 3rd district of Cebu, however, said “the family has not yet met to decide on that matter”.

“That is what the family will have to decide (on, should we meet to discuss our political plans). And I think all of us, individually, will heed the family's decision,” Rep. Garcia told CEBU DAILY NEWS in a text message.

Governor Garcia will run for a third term.

Her father, Pablo Garcia, and younger brother, Pablo John Garcia, are also seeking a second term as representatives of the second and third district of Cebu.

Dumanjug Mayor Cesar Baricuatro, who is joining the Nacionalist Party (NP) of Sen. Manuel Villar, intends to challenge the re-election bid of Pablo.

Former representative Antonio Yapha is mulling the possiblity of challenging the reelection bid of Pablo John in the 3rd district.

Yapha lost to Gwen when he ran for governor in 2007.

While the three Garcias prepare for their reelection bids, Nelson and Marlon are also said to be mobilizing supporters in their respective towns.

Sources at the Capitol said that Nelson plans to seek election against re-electionist Barili Mayor Teresito Mariñas while Marlon is running against Ilaya barangay captain Christopher Baricuatro, son of mayor Cesar Baricuatro.

Pablo John said that his elder brothers’ plans would still be discussed by their family.

In the sixth district, Rep. Nerissa Soon Ruiz is said to be pushing for the entry of former provincial board member Luigi Quisumbing whom she wanted to run for district representation under her slate.

Ruiz is planning to run for Mandaue City mayor against re-electionist mayor Jonas Cortes. Ruiz and Quisumbing are with Lakas.

Governor Garcia met Ruiz, former Mandaue mayor Thadeo Ouano and PB member Victor Maambong for lunch at the Shangri-La’s Mactan Resort and Spa on Nov. 10 before they went to the Mactan Benito Ebuen Airbase Most Important Persons lounge to meet President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

Ruiz has been lobbying for Quisumbing's entry into One Cebu.

Maambong, who is also eyeing the sixth district seat, said he was bent on pursuing his election plans even if his One Cebu group would favor Quisumbing.

As this developed, Vice Gov. Greg Sanchez sent a staff to the provincial Comelec office recently to inquire about the guidelines for the filing of certificates of candidacy.

Provincial election officer Marco Lionel Castillano said Rep. Eduardo Gullas (Cebu 1st district) has also sent a staff to secure a copy of the COC which he needed to fill up for his re-election bid.

Castillo said that COCs may also be downloaded from the Comelec website.

He said that Comelec offices would be open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. from Nov. 20 to 30, including Saturday and Sunday and holidays to receive COCs.

They would remain open until midnight on Dec. 1, the last day for the filing of COCs.

Castillano said candidates for local positions may file their COCs at the Comelec’s city and municipal offices.

Those running for congress and provincial positions would have to file their COCs at the Comelec provincial office.
