WHILE Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña is busy fending off the political machinations of his sister Georgia and cousin John Henry ?Sonny? Osmeña, Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia also has her hands full assembling her lineup for next year's elections.
The mayor said Georgia should stop pretending that she cares for his health by suggesting that his wife Margot drop her candidacy as councilor for Cebu City's south district.
He said he would rather focus on backing Vice Mayor Michael Rama for the mayoralty post rather than ponder Sonny?s offer to be his running mate.
Sonny earlier said that if elected mayor, he would step down and let Tomas assume the mayoralty post.
Georgia Osmeña, meanwhile, said Margot cannot neglect her husband's health while serving Cebu City residents in the council.
?It's okay with me I'm not offended but don't pretend because all throughout the time when I was in Houston, she did not even bother to text, ?how are you?. But you listen to her in the newspaper, she is capitalizing on my sickness,? Tomas said of Georgia.
In the meantime, the One Cebu party of Governor Garcia will hold a convention in two weeks to fill up vacancies in major positions in Cebu province.
Rep. Eduardo Gullas of Cebu's first district said a five-person committee will help select the candidates including the vice governor post which is now considered vacant.
In Talisay for instance, Gullas said he was not certain if he would still support long time ally Mayor Socrates Frnandez should the latter seek reelection after his administration was marred by controveries involving his adopted son Joavan.
At the provincial level, Garcia is searching for a running mate.
?I am aware of the statements of vice governor Sanchez on his ongoing negotiations with other political parties... It is unfortunate that our partnership will have to come to an end but I thank him for his cooperation,? said Garcia who arrived from her China trip on Monday.
Garcia said she won't stop Sanchez from running as governor in next year's elections.
Sanchez said he considered himself kicked out of One Cebu after Garcia said she would still go ahead with the entry of Tuburan Mayor Constacio Suezo and wife, Vice Mayor Rosemarie Suezo, into One Cebu.
?In One Cebu, we are always for unification. Along that line, we shall consider the application of Suezo?s entry in the party,? said Garcia.
Sanchez said he was never consulted about the entry of his rivals to the party.
Garcia said she is calling a convention of One Cebu to take up concerns in the district congressional race.
The convention may take place after she arrives from her trip to China on Nov. 11 to 14. She was scheduled to leave for India on Nov. 21.
Garcia said the selection of vice governor was a distinct possibility during their convention.
?I shall listen to the party leaders in the district then we shall settle the congressional race with due process,?
