REP. Antonio Cuenco of Cebu City’s south district received an endorsement from Cebu Gov. Gwendolyn Garcia for inclusion in the Philippine government's foreign services.
The governor’s endorsement was needed for President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo to also recommend Cuenco's appointment to the Commission on Appointment (CA).
“She (Garcia) has written to the president and Secretary Romulo is proposing that I be assigned in Italy,” Cuenco told CEBU DAILY NEWS.
While waiting for his appointment, Cuenco said he intends to campaign for the governor's choice of a presidential candidate in Cebuano speaking provinces.
Cuenco said he was told that Representatives Pablo Garcia and Pablo John Garcia of Cebu's 3rd district and 4th districts would support administration candidate and Defense Secretary Gilbert Teodoro Jr.
Rep. Pablo Garcia sits in the Lakas-Kampi CMD executive committee.
Cuenco told that he does not intend to join the province's political landscape, preferring to limit his involvement in Cebu City.
Cuenco said he was chairperson of the committee on Foreign Affairs in the House of Representatives for six years.
The CA has until Feb 2010 to approve his appointment.
