ALL BARANGAY captains of Cebu City were invited to a meeting with Mayor Tomas Osmeña today for a consultation regarding the proposal of SM Prime Holdings Inc. to purchase land at the South Road Properties (SRP).
Osmeña said that although majority of the village chiefs already agreed with the proposal, he still felt it was necessary to consult them all.
?I have to go through this process anyway because it?s not my property. This 300-hectare property belongs to the people of Cebu City. I have to go through the formalities. That?s just being decent,? Osmeña said.
The mayor will also update the city?s 80 barangay captains about recent developments in the SRP.
?We have to restate our position, the reason behind our debt,? the mayor said.
SM Prime Holdings? proposal is to purchase a 30.4-hectare lot at the SRP for P2.7 billion.
The mayor said he expected 99-percent agreement from the barangay captains regarding SM?s proposal, based on barangay consultations he has conducted over the city?s deals.
Today, Osmeña is scheduled to consult separately with north district and south district barangay captains, then bring them all together later for his SRP briefing. REPORTER MARIAN Z. CODILLA
