Bill Gates group gives housing aid to families

ABOUT 270 urban poor families in barangay Tipolo will become housing beneficiaries courtesy of the Mandaue city government and a non-government organization funded by the Bill Gates Foundation.

Families of the Lower Tipolo Homeowners Association, Inc. who occupy 1.6 hectares of the 9.2 city-donated lot will pay P1 a day for their homelots each measuring 32 to 40 square meters.

The area to be classified as an urban poor subdivision is located near the Mandaue reclamation area.

Housing and Urban Development Office chief Fransisco Amit Jr. said the association will collect the P1 from its members as their counerpart for the project.

Other expenses including the site development will be shared by the Mandaue city government and the Philippine Action for Community-led Shelter Initiatives, Inc. (PACSI), a non-government organization funded by the Bill Gates Foundation.
