SOME 46 of the 157 families displaced by the Sept. 30 fire in barangay Opao, Mandaue City were barred from rebuilding their homes.
Opao barangay captain Jovita Tuela Ouano said these families were renting the lot owned by the Prada family.
But the Pradas prevented the families from returning to the lot after fire.
Ouano said she was negotiating with some of her relatives who may have vacant lots where the 46 families could temporarily put up their homes.
She said she was also talking with businessmen in the barangay who may be able to spare areas that could be used as temporary relocation sites.
So far, none of Ouano’s relatives or the businessmen have positively responded to her request.
In the meantime, victims of the Opao fire were housed in the barangay’s sports complex.
But the aid that the city government earlier promised the victims may come in December.
City Social Welfare Services information officer Jeffrey Mirafuentes said the procurement process for the construction materials was similar to the process for the aid of victims of the May 25 fire in barangay Umapad.
The Umapad victims received their aid in August, around three months after the fire.
