Noynoy urged to listen to Church on RH bill

First Posted 08:48:00 10/25/2009

FOR some Catholic figures, Sen. Benigno ?Noynoy? Aquino III can be a good leader but he should listen to the church?s stand on the Reproductive Health (RH) bill.

Alexander Lacson of the Church group Dilaab Foundation Inc. and the Tuloy Pnoy movement said Aquino satisfies the criteria of attitude, competence, track record and lifestyle.

During last Wednesday?s launching of the Cocktails for a Cause at the Cathedral Museum, Lacson said the senator was never reported to have abused power.

The event was part of efforts to raise awareness on election issues especially on the Church?s stand on the RH bill.

?(Aquino) has never been abusive of power. He is the son of a president for six years, he was a congressman for six years. There was never an issue that he abused power,? said Lacson.

The only ?vices? Lacson said he knows Aquino has are smoking and a penchant for drinking softdrinks.

But Lacson said Aquino should listen to the church on the controversial RH bill.

The senator recently said the public should be given a choice in family planning methods, including the use of contraceptives.

Lacson also said voters should also watch for the lifestyle of the candidates of their choice because this will not change when they hold office.

On the issue of competence, Lacson said he veers from the conventional requirement of education and experience.

?I asked myself, what competence do we look for in a leader? Is it the competence of a businessman who was able to build a business empire...or are we looking for a leader who builds for us a good government?? he said.

?As a leader, your first job is to build a good government for the people. I think that kind of competence comes only from a good heart.? Editorial Assistant Ma. Bernadette A. Parco
