No more parties at Palace of Justice

First Posted 06:52:00 10/20/2009

COURT employees and officials will have to celebrate their special events, including birthdays and Christmas parties, outside the Palace of Justice.

Regional Trial Court (RTC) judges issued the prohibition in the wake of an incident in which an assistant city prosecutor and a police officer were seen drunk during office hours.

Assistant Prosecutor Victor Laborte confronted CEBU DAILY NEWS for failing to publish a resolution he made.

A police officer named Elvin Wenceslao joined Laborte in berating the reporters.

Lloyd Suarez, a broadcaster of DYSS and a columnist, later explained to Wenceslao, who only raised his voice and prompted Suarez to request assistance from Palace of Justice guards.

Palace of Justice spokesman and RTC Judge Gabriel Ingles said the ban would help prevent a repeat of the incident.
