Barely two days after tropical storm ?Ondoy? ravaged most of the National Capital Region (NCR), a southwest monsoon is expected to hit the country sometime today.
In its advisory, the state weather bureau Pagasa said the southwest monsoon would hit the western seaboard of Luzon and Visayas.
Western Luzon will have cloudy skies with scattered rainshowers and thunderstorms packing winds of 52 to 73 kilometers per hour.
Western Visayas will also have rains and storms with winds of 41 to 63 kilometers per hour and rough to very rough waves.
As this developed, a medical mission will be sent by the Cebu City government to Manila in the next two weeks to assist doctors in treating flood victims who may fall ill to various diseases as a result of last Saturday's heavy downpour caused by ?Ondoy.?
Acting Mayor Michael Rama, who called for a meeting with the Cebu City Disaster Coordinating Council to map out plans for distribution of relief goods and assistance, said they will coordinate with media outlets in appealing for donations from city residents.
A donation center was set up by the Cebu City government in Fuente Osmeña yesterday.
Rama said he was told by Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña not to send a medical mission immediately since they were not assured of any place to sleep in.
But City Administrator Francisco Fernandez later said Cebu City Hall will send a medical teamin the next two weeks.
He said this is unlike the 1991 Ormoc City tragedy in which the Cebu City government and the Capitol both managed to send medical teams immediately.
Fernandez said they will first coordinate with the the National Disaster Coordinating Council headed by Defense Secretary Gilberto Teodoro to determine the needs of the flood victims.
Fernandez also said the Cebu City government will hold a typhoon drill for rescue groups and students in public schools in the next two weeks.
He said it is imperative that Cebu City residents know how to deal with floods whenever a heavy downpour occurs.
